Club Business/Announcements:
- Shelter box initiative: right now, Rotary clubs are sending Shelter Boxes to Haiti. We set sponsoring one Shelter Box as a goal for this year, Pete is our Shelter Box point person.
- We are also collecting cases of water for Faith Christian Interact. They asked for 400 bottles, and I believe have half of that. Water was on sale, $10 for three cases at Martins recently. Bill, Marilyn, or I will deliver any that are bought to a meeting before 23 October.
- At our Board meeting, two days ago, we talked about our upcoming schedule. We voted to keep our Board meeting on November 2nd, even though that is Election Day, and on Thanksgiving week, we voted to move the meeting to Wednesday, November 24th, submitted that request to Sandie at the Holiday Inn, and she has approved it.
- The Apple Harvest Pancake Breakfast will be held on October 16th and 17th at the Exhibit Hall of the Berkeley County Youth fairgrounds. I’m still looking for one or two more volunteers for that event. Show time for most will be 7:30 AM, a few will be asked to arrive at 7:00 AM to cook. We must wear masks, gloves, and baseball hats or hairnets. I think they will all be provided.
- Also, at our last Board meeting I spoke about a possible community service project that could be done by our Interact clubs in conjunction with Mountaineer Recovery and Orion Strategies. It involves ensuring that there is a proper flag in each classroom in each high school in Berkeley County. Jenn Stanley is checking with Faith Christian High School, I believe that Martinsburg High is already covered, and we can look at the other three schools in turn.
- Rob Lowe is seeking volunteers to join the new Pickleball Tournament Fundraising Committee. Please consider this and get with him for more information.
Student Guests
- Our student guests this week were Emma Engle and K’Marion from
- Martinsburg High School and were introduced by Trent Sherman.
Program
The program today was from Scotty Pereschuk on behalf of Columbia Care. Columbia Care is one of the largest and most experienced cultivators, manufacturers and providers of cannabis products and related services, with licenses in 18 US jurisdictions and the EU. Columbia Care currently operates 126 facilities1 including 95 dispensaries and 31 cultivation and manufacturing facilities. Columbia Care is one of the original providers of medical cannabis in the U.S. and continues to deliver industry-leading products and services.
“We are excited to begin cultivation in West Virginia and be one step closer to providing relief to the patients who need it,” said Nicholas Vita, CEO of Columbia Care. “Our ability to begin
operations solidifies our position as a leader in the state. As we begin design of Phase 2 of our buildout, we will add more square feet to our facilities to continue to meet the demand of the medical program in West Virginia.”
As one of only 10 provisionally licensed cultivators in West Virginia, Columbia Care’s facility will utilize the maximum available cultivation space permitted under state regulation. The Company
has begun developing all five of its medical dispensaries across West Virginia, which will support the growing community of more than 2,300 enrolled patients in the state’s medical program.
